5/30/2023 0 Comments Josiah bancroft books of babel![]() ![]() The Fall of Babel finally hit the shelves on November 9, 2021, and I was pleased to find a fresh-off-the-press copy at my local bookstore. 4 sounded like a portent for a plot in which terrible things happen and no happy outcomes can be expected. So ever since The Hod King came out in January 2019, and it became known that, in fact, there would be four, not three books, readers have been hurrying up and waiting. People nagged him, fans mobbed him, he had to keep explaining that he would rather do a good job and publish the last book later than rush it and have a less than perfect product. The wait was not made easier by the face that the previous novel in the series, The Hod King, ends with a life-or-death cliffhanger. ![]() Fans of Josiah Bancroft’s popular series, The Books of Babel, had to wait two long years for The Fall of Babel, the last one in the set of four novels. ![]()

That they were sent after Mara to get close to her, to become her friend, so they could eventually lead her into the Asylum to set off her “disease”… jeeez. And she didn’t even seem to care that they were all dying, that she was just making more disease, not coming up with a cure. ![]() But what she did to those children, the ones she experimented on, hoping for a cure. well, maybe Kells herself was as bit insane. I know having children is insanely important to some people, so to have so many miscarriages…. Watching her video diaries was so interesting. The fact that Kells actually has a reason for doing everything she’s done, even though she did some super fucked up things. By “the discovery” I’m talking about, well, basically everything that has to do with Horizons. I guess I’ll start with the discovery? The English government and police are subject to sustained criticism, and the novel bristles with some wonderfully orchestrated effects of dramatic irony – all set in the murky atmosphere of late Victorian London. It is based on the real incident of a bomb attack on the Greenwich Observatory in 1888 and features a cast of wonderfully grotesque characters: Verloc the lazy double agent, Inspector Heat of Scotland Yard, and the Professor – an anarchist who wanders through the novel with bombs strapped round his waist and the detonator in his hand. The Secret Agent (1907) is a short novel and a masterpiece of sustained irony. ![]() Tutorial, commentary, study resources, and web links ![]() 5/30/2023 0 Comments Cut! by Denise Imwold![]() ![]() She’s devoted little time to thinking about that baby since, until one of the nurses notices that Hannah has the same medical condition (webbed toes) as the baby girl Jodie gave birth to all those years ago. Carr had a passion for totem poles, and the iconic indigenous sculpture became one of the best-known symbols in her art. This resulted in revelatory work portraying a sector of the population that, otherwise, may have never been witnessed or appreciated by the public eye. ![]() Her proclivity for solitude drove her away from city life and society and into the wild, where she found a large sense of belonging with the indigenous cultures and their primal ways of being.
